Intended Use of the UDP Tool
We anticipate that several groups of individuals concerned with toy design and use will use the UDP tool. Families, buyers, toy manufacturers and designers, as well as play and disability experts may use the tool for different purposes.
- Familes to select successful toys for their children
- Toy buyers to select toys for groups of children
- Toy designers & manufacturers to include and improve features
- Play experts to compare and suggest "best" toys
The use of the tool with a toy will result in a rating that indicates the extent to which universal design features are present. The higher the score on the tool the greater the presence of UD features in the toy. The lower the score the fewer UD features are incorporated into the toy design.
This tool is not meant to "match" a particular child to a toy. If the tool indicates a high presence of UD features in a toy, that toy is more likely to be successfully played with and fun for children with a range of abilities and interests. |
